Canada confirms continued registration for herbicide chlorthal-dimethyl
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has confirmed to continue the current registration of herbicide products containing chlorthal-dimethyl in Canada as no comments were received during the consultation process. No additional risk mitigation measures are required; however, label updates are necessary to clarify the maximum yearly application rate on all end-use products.

Chlorthal-dimethyl is a pre-emergent herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds and grasses. It is formulated as a wettable powder that is used on turf, ornamentals, fruits, and vegetables. Chlorthal-dimethyl is applied using ground application equipment only, with no more than two applications per year. Currently, there is one technical product, one manufacturing concentrate, and one commercial end-use product containing chlorthal-dimethyl registered in Canada.

To comply with this decision, the required label changes must be implemented on all products labels sold by registrants no later than 24 months after the publication date of this document. Registrants of the products containing chlorthal-dimethyl will be informed of the specific requirements affecting their product registration(s) and of the regulatory options available to them.

Any person may file a notice of objection regarding this decision on chlorthal-dimethyl within 60 days from the date of publication of this special review decision (March 8).
